Terry K. Wilson has been painting since the age of 2 years old after his father, an artist and art educator, recognized his talent one day as Terry created a drawing which amazingly included digits on hands and feet, facial features, and correct proportions. Terry's early drawings were so exceptional that he received his first commission at the young age of 3 from a New York City Art Collector! Terry's distinctive style of art has been strongly influenced by his proclivity for the unlimited possibilities of painting with airbrush and acrylics. His artistic style is further derived from his keen interest in sports, travel, social and moral issues, and most importantly people. Terry’s works have been shown in major exhibits throughout the United States where he has received numerous awards from juried art exhibits. His works hangs in the private collections of many prominent individuals as well as numerous corporations. Terry received the honor of “Favorite Emerging Artist” which directly led to being commissioned by Pepsi Cola to create the logo for the 4th Annual Black Heritage Art Expo. Terry has participated in the nation’s largest African American art expo “October Gallery” for many years. One of Wilson’s most recognizable creations “Jesus Wept” hangs in a foreign US Embassy, and has also previously had his work “Forward We March” showcased at The White House. Through Wilson’s vision and faith, his success has led him the honor of being listed as one of the Top 25 Black artists in the country, touring with the elite artists “Black Art on Tour”. Terry Wilson is an award winning artist that enjoys mentoring to future artist's sharing his God given talents. Terry loves children and believes it's so important to spend quality time with them; to nurture their talents; and to educate and expose them to life's history and future. Terry gives back to the community in many ways. He has taught our young people about art techniques and our black heritage through visual demonstrations and classes at both The Indiana State Museum and The Marion County Public Library. Mr. Wilson participates in a variety of forums for elementary and middle school students in the Indianapolis School System whenever asked. Terry has taught a visual arts class to elementary students at Witherspoon Performing Arts Program for four years through a grant from Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company, Inc. Terry also taught an art class offered through the Ford Motor Company Continuing Education Program to employees of Ford Motor Company. Terry Wilson was commissioned by The Indiana State Museum to create a mural during Black History Month. Elementary students statewide were encouraged to help Wilson complete the mural while he simultaneously taught the history of the people depicted in the mural. He has also been a Guest Artist at the University of Illinois and a Guest Visual Artist at multiple schools throughout Atlanta, GA.
